On Sunday, May 12, 2019, employees from the Sundance Vacations Pittsburgh office spent their Mother’s Day participating in the 27th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Flagstaff Hill at Schenley Park.
Although it was a rainy day, there was nearly 18,000 participants registered for the race, including approximately 2,000 breast cancer survivors! Even with the rain, the Sundance Vacations team had smiles on the whole time! The Sundance Vacations Pittsburgh employees that participated included: manager Yousuf Al-meer, Adam Yoder, Mariah Rumble, Robert Moffitt, Charlotte Peer, Nick Mittereder, Summer Salah, and Michael Rim. According to the Susan G. Komen website, the Pittsburgh Race for the Cure raised over $198,000.00. Fundraising today will help reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026!

Jennifer Bigham, of Squirrel Hill, a Pittsburgh Great Race champion, finished first among women in the 5K race through parts of Oakland and Squirrel Hill, and Andrew Zentgraf, of Oakmont, a University of Pittsburgh student, was first overall in 17:07. Topping the survivor category were Christine Clark (24:32), Amber Aughenbaugh (24:59) and Ginny Ellwood (25:24)

Komen Greater PA is a continual effort to meet the breast health needs of the affiliate’s 53-county service area across Pennsylvania, with 75% of all funds raised staying in the community and supporting breast cancer education, screening, and treatment initiatives, while the remaining 25% of all funds raised support Komen’s National Grant Program that funds research programs throughout the country. Through its year-round efforts, Komen Greater PA has raised nearly $25 million to help fund local breast health education, screening, and treatment initiatives, as well as $10 million for breast cancer research.
