Our Wilkes-Barre Office Fundraises for Cancer Victim
A Sundance Vacations Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania office employee organized a fundraiser at the corporate headquarters for his dear friend with cancer.
When Richard Laury, a dedicated member and employee of St. Faustina Kowalska Roman Catholic Church, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (stage-four Brain Cancer) this past May, friends and family immediately took action. One of those friends was Sundance Vacations employee Jeff Warchal.
Warchal orchestrated a dress-down day to raise funds for Laury’s chemotherapy treatments. Employees could pay $5 to wear denim, shorts or sweatshirts to work on Tuesday, July, 5.
Forty-five Sundance Vacations employees participated, some even making additional donations, bringing the total funds raised for the Stength4Richard cause to $234.50!
“I am in awe of such generosity by so many individuals and organizations,” Warchal said. “To fight Brain Cancer for such a faithful person and my friend, Richard!”
In fact, Sundance Vacations employees were not the only ones raising funds for Laury this July.
Friends and family of Laury gave speeches, listened to musical performances, purchased food and beverages and participated in a basket raffle to raise proceeds to put towards his medical expenses.
All in all, the benefit concert produced another $5,000 for Laury, and there are more events planned for the rest of the summer. One upcoming event is a spaghetti dinner at St. Mary’s School Hall this upcoming July 17.
