On Saturday, June 16, Maternal and Family Health Services teamed up with Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community for the MFHS Healthy Heroes Walk!

This was the first time the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community happened in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area! The event raised $9,000, and had 250 participants! MFHS had the most walkers at the Scranton walk with 102! After all Highmark walks were concluded, the total amount raised was over 1.5 million!

The event consisted of a 5K and a 1-mile walk, and based around beneficial exercise and community awareness.

Participants also were able to head to the PNC Field Kids Zone, and enjoy face painting, balloon animals, snacks, refreshments, prizes, team mascots, and much more!

There was no fee to walk, but the more the participants donated/raised, the more prizes they were entered to win! Walkers received the following for each fundraising milestone:

  • $25 – Crayola Dry Erase Fun Transfer (youth)
  • $30 – Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community t-shirt (from Highmark)
  • $50 – Healthy Heroes superhero cape
  • $100 – Every $100 raised will get one entry into MFHS grand prize drawing

Sundance Vacations donated a week long getaway!

Sundance Vacations donated an 8 night/7 day stay for either the beautiful Myrtle Beach/Hilton Head, SC, valued at $1,500!

The walkers had until June 29 to get any last-minute donation in order to try to have a chance to win the trip.

The Maternal and Family Health Services stopped in the Sundance Vacations Wilkes-Barre office for a Facebook live video where the grand prize winner was selected!
