Founded in 1887 in Denver, Colorado, the United Way has been seeking to help individuals and communities reach their human potential. Created by a woman, a priest, two minsters and a rabbi, this organization is an amazing example of how helping people is universal and should not be dependent upon race, sex, age or anything else.
The United Way of Wyoming Valley is highly committed to helping reduce children’s poverty and improving the overall lives of those who live in the area by moving families in poverty toward financial stability.
One-third of all children under the age of 5 in Luzerne County live below the poverty line. For all youngsters below the age of 18, 29% are still below the line. With the help of Sundance Vacations and other generous sponsors, the United Way of Wyoming Valley is investing in early childhood programs that will boost success in schooling, educating parents on financial literary, and in raising the poverty line in their community.
The United Way operates on the principle that together, UNITED, people are stronger than they are alone. Working together, the Wyoming Valley chapter hopes to create opportunities for a better tomorrow!
