Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Bridge helps children in Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) and began in Luzerne County in 1974.
The organization serves multiple counties in PA including Wyoming, Carbon, Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, Lycoming, Montour, Monroe and Columbia.
So what is it that they do? The charity accepts volunteers to be big brothers or big sisters to younger children seeking guidance. Whether Big’s take on the role of their Little’s friend, role model, guide, instructor, however the child needs them, they are expected to be there.
This includes arranging days to get together with their Little to share everyday moments; the organization lives by the motto “Little Moments, Big Magic.” Their hope is that the children are inspired by their Big’s help to build high expectations, better relationships, greater confidence and successful career paths.
Each year, the charity’s biggest fundraising event is their Bowl for Kids’ Sake in which people put together teams of bowlers and compete in a friendly match. Each bowler is encouraged to raise at least $50 in pledges for the children in NEPA.
Sundance Vacations is proud to support their Bowl for Kids’ Sake as a leading sponsor!
Although Big Brothers and Big Sisters receives funding through the United Way and other state or federal grants, they rely largely on donations.
