As the only emergency shelter for homeless women in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, Ruth’s Place Women’s Shelter has provided somewhere to stay for over 2,000 women since its start in 2003.
As a program of the Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania, Ruth’s Place Women’s Shelter has hosted a number of their “Walk for Hope” events, where they raise money via pledges for the shelter.
The program provides safe, temporary, and short-term emergency shelter for women experiencing homelessness in the area.
Ruth’s Place Women’s Shelter is committed to helping women form a plan to find stable housing and or directly or nearly directly place them into permanent housing.
While supportive services are offered, the shelter does not require ladies to participate in the services to remain in housing. Even if they leave the program for a period of time, Ruth’s Place continues to provide case management and to hold housing for the woman.
Ruth’s Place Women’s Shelter merged with the Volunteers of America of PA in 2013 and together, they continue to help women in need.
