Helping more than 1 million families nationwide, the Easter Seals program has been assisting children and adults with disabilities and/or special needs for almost a century.

The organization originated after a man named Edgar Allen lost his son in a car accident in 1907. Allen sold his business to build a hospital in his hometown in Ohio where he was exposed to children with disabilities.

In the spring of 1934, the organization launched its first Easter “seals” campaign to raise money and since, Easter Seals was named for their iconic lily symbol of simplicity and new life.
