Helping to Feed Those in Need

Sundance Vacations is proud to have collected food supplies for the past seven years to assist the Northeast Regional Weinberg Food Bank in feeding the hungry during the holiday season.

Kelly Valovich, Sundance Vacations’ Charity Coordinator, has been working with the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) to gather meals for the Weinberg Food Bank around Christmas time since the company’s first drive in 2008.

This year, the turnout was better than ever!

Sundance Vacations’ employees brought in hundreds of food items at our corporate office in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. that totaled 619 pounds of food!

Sundance Vacations employees went all out to lend a hand!

Items that employees collected included: jars of peanut butter, cans of soup and vegetables, pasta, juices and many other nonperishable foods.

Amanda Brueckler, Food Sourcing and Marketing Director for the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank, tells us that one in every seven people need help putting food on their table.

The CEO Weinberg Food Bank solicits, stores and distributes food supplies to 501c3 faith-based, nonprofit agencies such as soup kitchens, pantries, shelters, children programs and more to help impoverished families.

As a thank you for their help, employees received dress down days based on the amount of items they brought in. Many employees brought in so much that they are now able to wear jeans to work for the entire month of December!

“We call it Denim in December,” Valovich said. “Christmas time reminds us of those who are less fortunate and could use our help.  With everything so hectic, it’s hard to make time to iron a suit and tie or throw on heels when you’re running around getting gifts or visiting loved ones.”

Brueckler says that while the Sundance Vacations employees will get enjoyment out of helping others and dressing down, those helped by these donations will be thankful for the generosity of others.

Sundance Vacations and CEO Weinberg Food Bank get ready to pack up the food to feed the hungry.

“If it wasn’t for partner support such as Sundance Vacations, we wouldn’t be able to help those in need,” Brueckler said. “Sundance Vacations has supported the Weinberg Food Bank on several occasions. We can’t thank them enough and we look forward to partnering for many years to come!”

The food bank doesn’t work alone; they partner with over 300 different businesses and organizations to get food to the people who need it most.

CEO Weinberg Food Bank strives to both alleviate hunger and provide nutritional food while serving the Luzerne, Lackawanna, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties of Northeast Pennsylvania.
